The House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) (Scotland) Order, 1951

Whereas under subsection (3) of section two of the House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) Act, 1949(b), (hereinafter referred to as the Act of 1949) the Boundary Commission for Scotland has submitted to the Secretary of State a report dated the thirteenth day of November, 1950, with respect to the areas comprised in certain constituencies described in the First Schedule to the Representation of the People Act, 1948(c), (hereinafter referred to as the Act of 1948), and showing the constituencies into which they recommend that the areas should be divided in order to give effect to the rules set out in the Second Schedule to the Act of 1949:

And Whereas the Secretary of State has laid the said report before Parliament together with the draft of this Order in Council for giving effect to certain of the recommendations contained in the report, which draft has been approved by resolution of each House of Parliament:

(a) 14 Geo. 6. c. lv.

(b) 12, 13 & 14 Geo. 6. c. 66.

(c) 11 & 12 Geo. 6. c. 65.

Now, therefore, His Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred by subsection (6) of section three of the Act of 1949, and of all other powers enabling Him in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of His Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:-

1. There shall be transferred from the county constituency of West Dunbartonshire (as described in the First Schedule to the Act of 1948) to the county constituency of East Dunbartonshire (as so described) the area added to the burgh of Clydebank by Part II of the Clydebank Burgh Order, 1949.

2. The registration officer for the burgh of Clydebank shall make such re-arrangement of the register as may be necessary for giving effect to this Order.

3.-(1) This Order may be cited as the House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) (Scotland) Order, 1951.

(2) The Interpretation Act, 1889(a) shall apply to the interpretation of this Order as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

(3) This Order shall come into force on the date hereof.

Provided that the coming into force of this Order shall not affect any parliamentary election until a proclamation is issued by His Majesty summoning a new Parliament or affect the constitution of the House of Commons until the dissolution of the Parliament in being at the time of the coming into force of this Order.
